How-to guide
Romance scam warning signs
Romance scammers build trust quickly, then invent an emergency that needs money. They are patient and convincing — these are the signs to watch for.
The red flags
Romance scams follow a script. Watch for the combination:
- Strong feelings declared very quickly.
- Always an excuse to never video-call or meet in person.
- A sudden emergency, investment "opportunity", or travel cost that needs money.
- Requests for gift cards, crypto, or wire transfers.
Protect yourself
Never send money or crypto to someone you haven't met in person. Do a reverse-image search of their photos. Run the conversation through Scam Doctor for a calm second opinion before you act.
Frequently asked questions
How do romance scams usually start?

What should I do if I sent money?
